Manchester United handed perfect transfer solution by West Ham for Erik ten Hag issue

Manchester United have one problem position which needs fixing before they kick off against Fulham on August 16.

Injuries and age badly caught up with Casemiro last season with the Brazilian no longer having the legs to cover any gaps in midfield. Opposition attackers often enjoyed large swaths of Old Trafford in 2023/24 as United's defence was left exposed time and time again.

It's why the Reds are looking towards Paris Saint-Germain's Manuel Ugarte, a younger and more dynamic version of the former Real Madrid star. Ugarte is someone who could offer United more control in possession whilst having the mentality to compete against the Premier League's best midfielders.

But with Scott McTominay's future at the club in doubt, an alternative solution to United's biggest problem could present itself. Reports from The Times last month have claimed that West Ham may reignite their interest in McTominay.

The Hammers looked to sign United's academy graduate last summer but saw a £30m bid rejected. Fulham are now being more strongly linked with the Cottagers submitting a third bid of £23m.

However, West Ham may be the best move for United if they want Edson Alvarez. The Mexican has a clear advantage over Ugarte having already spent a season adapting to the Premier League.
