Manuel Ugarte transfer will be the beginning of the end for two Man United careers

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag insisted after the 1-0 victory over Fulham that he was happy with his squad but offered a word of caution to the remaining members of his team.

"We can't stand still," the Dutchman warned as he declared that any further business this summer would be dependent on what else happens in the transfer market. When making these comments, it has now become evident that a new signing would be dependent on a player leaving.

MEN Sport understands the priority between now and Friday, August 30's deadline is to bring PSG's Manuel Ugarte to the club. The Uruguayan defensive midfielder did not feature in their squad for the opening game of the season against Le Havre.

For the 23-year-old to arrive at Old Trafford, there would first need to be a departure and this is where one career looks to be fading at United. It appears Scott McTominay is seen as the only midfielder who 1) would be allowed to leave and 2) has interest in his signature.

Reports on Tuesday claimed Napoli's director Giovanni Manna had arrived in England to negotiate further with the Reds for the Scottish international. With Ugarte's arrival looking increasingly close, it seems McTominay's time in Manchester is winding down.

Once Ugarte is in the building, though, we could see another player's days numbered. Currently, Casemiro is seen as the anchoring defensive midfielder for the Reds.
