Manchester United have perfect Manuel Ugarte solution to settle transfer stalemate

Manuel Ugarte could be Manchester United's most important summer signing if a deal with Paris Saint-Germain can be agreed.

Defensive midfield was at the heart of all that was wrong in Erik ten Hag's team last season with injuries and age catching up with Casemiro. The Brazilian played well in Saturday's Community Shield against Manchester City but conclusions cannot be drawn from what many see as another pre-season friendly.

Sofyan Amrabat meanwhile never looked good enough to be a regular starter at Old Trafford after spending last season on loan at United, with talk of a potential return signalling that the club may be running out of options. It's why signing Ugarte could be so crucial.

Dspite agreeing personal terms with the Uruguayan, United are yet to agree a transfer fee with PSG. The Parisians' asking price is still said to be a sticking point although United are reportedly still in talks to seal a deal.

One potential solution could lie in a player PSG have been linked with. Jadon Sancho faces an uncertain future at United with interest said to have emerged from the big-spending French club.

Selling Sancho is surely in United's best interests to aid their PSR situation and seal an exit for someone who has never been able to fulfil his potential. A move to PSG where there will be far less pressure and scrutiny is likely to benefit Sancho.

With United's need for Ugarte, the club may have to sacrifice receiving a transfer fee for Sancho by offering the 24-year-old as part of a swap deal. Depending on how United
