Manchester United £9.6m exit confirmed as transfer detail shows welcome PSR boost

Manchester United have confirmed the departure of centre-back Willy Kambwala to Spanish club Villarreal on a permanent deal.

The French youth international has put pen to paper on a five-year deal at the Estadio de la Cerámica in a deal understood to be worth €11.5million (£9.6m). United have received €5.5m (£4.6m) up front, with €6m (£5m) in add-ons.

The Reds have also inserted a buy-back option and a sell-on clause into the deal. He has followed Donny van de Beek in leaving Old Trafford for a Spanish club this summer.

United signed Kambwala, 19, from French club Sochaux for €4m in 2020. He was given his senior debut by Erik ten Hag last December and featured 10 times in all competitions last season. As a result of joining United at the age of 16, his sale counts as pure profit for the club in PSR terms. His contract was due to expire next year.

Kambwala was understood to have been reluctant to leave the club until he was informed by Erik ten Hag that he would be down the pecking order this season. United are working on a deal to sign Bayern Munich's Matthijs de Ligt and have had a bid accepted for Lille's Leny Yoro.

Jonny Evans also put pen to paper on a new contract on Friday, meaning competition for places in the heart of the defence could soon be high at Old Trafford. The club, however, is planning to cash-in on Victor Lindelof ahead of his contract expiring in June next year.

United have unveiled their new adidas home kit with new front-of-shirt sponsors for the 2024/25 season - and you can get your hands on it right now.
