Manager Josh Wright wants his Ebbsfleet United players to savour the challenge of getting the point they need to make the National League South play-offs at title-chasing Worthing
Ebbsfleet manager Josh Wright has urged his players to embrace the battle for a final-day play-off spot.
The Fleet need to avoid defeat at leaders Worthing this Saturday to ensure they finish in the top seven.
The hosts know that victory will secure them the National League South title so it’s going to be a tension-filled day at Woodside Road.
Despite the Fleet’s season being on the line, Wright reckons there’s no pressure on his players.
“You have to embrace this,” said the Fleet boss. “That’s the word I use.
“You have to embrace it and it is a privilege. It’s horrible to be on the other end of it when you’re struggling and you’re fighting for your life, staying in the division and worrying about other results.
“We need to embrace this. Right here, right now, we’re in the play-offs.
“Yes, we go to the team that are top of the league. But we’ve proven [we’re good enough] by how many teams we’ve beaten this season, the runs we’ve been on, the points we’ve picked up and the goals we’ve scored.
“We’ve just got to go there with freedom and belief. We gave them a really good game at home.
“They’re top of the league for a reason. We’re a few points off them for a reason, and anything can happen.
“There’s big pressure on them to go and win the league. Big pressure. But my team’s in form and we’re excited for it. We’ll go there with a real belief that we can get the win.”
With Weston-super-Mare hosting Dorking Wanderers on the final day, the Fleet know they need only a point at Worthing to secure a play-off spot.
But Wright insisted that it won’t mean they change their approach.
“If a point gets us in it, fantastic, but I want to go and get the three points,” stated Wright. “That’s what I want to do. I want to go and win the
