Striker Kwesi Appiah wants to finish the job and get Ebbsfleet United promoted to National League next season after missing out on play-off place

Striker Kwesi Appiah feels he has unfinished business at Ebbsfleet.

The 35-year-old is among 11 players staying at Stonebridge Road as they look to mount another promotion challenge in National League South.

The Fleet fell short of the play-offs after losing at champions Worthing on the final day of the season, but preparations are already well under way to push again next term.

“That’s how I feel,” said Appiah. “I want to be at this club and I want to help this club get promoted.

“Next season, that will be a great thing to do and a place I want to be. So, yes, definitely unfinished business.

“This season, it can’t be anything less than that feeling (a failure), really, can it? Going into the play-offs is a bit of a lottery, but being in it still gives you the chance of achieving what ultimately the goal was, and that was to get promoted.

“It’s even more frustrating because of how close the points were and the disappointing results we had during that period where we could have picked up more points than we did.

“The late goals that went against us, those types of things all come back to your memory and it just frustrates you even more. But you’ve got to lick your wounds and go again.”

Appiah started his career at the Fleet, coming through the club’s youth system and making his debut in the Kent Senior Cup as a 17-year-old in 2007.

He scored on his home league debut in the Conference against Woking in the 2008/09 season and was immediately snapped up by Peterborough.

The emotional tie to Ebbsfleet remains as strong as ever.

“It means a lot, you know?” stated Appiah. “It means a lot and it’s a sentimental feeling. It’s emotional, a higher emotional feeling than any other club I’ve been at, just purely because of that.
