Faversham Town caretaker manager Frannie Collin says team can put marker down for next season with season-ending win over Isthmian South East champions Three Bridges; Lilywhites head into game with very slight hopes of top-five finish
Caretaker boss Frannie Collin thinks Faversham Town can put a marker down for next season - by completing the double over the champions.
The Lilywhites head into their last match of a first campaign back at Isthmian South East this Saturday, with slim hopes of finishing in an Isthmian South East play-off place.
Town would have to complete the double over Three Bridges - having beaten their nine men 4-2 in November through goals from Eniye Amgbaduba, Ethan Smith, Harrison Pont and the now-departed James Dyer - and also see relegated VCD win at fifth-placed Sittingbourne with a three-goal swing needed, as well, across the two games.
It’s an unlikely scenario but seven points from Faversham’s first three games under Collin and Steve Watt have taken their promotion push to the final day.
“That’s what we said after the game,” said Collin, whose Lilywhites were held to a 2-2 draw at Sevenoaks last weekend.
“When we came in, we were written off. I think Margate and Deal could have overtaken us.
“Fair play to any of the players that get into the play-offs. They deserve to be there.
“Since the start of this year, we have drawn too many games, especially at home. Saturday was our 13th draw.
“But this weekend is a chance to play against the team that has won the league. They deserve to be champions, in my opinion, but, ironically, we did win there.
"It’s a chance for us to put a marker down.
“If we make the right additions, there’s no reason why we cannot do what Three Bridges have done.”
Collin believes lots of clubs can learn from how Jamie Crellin’s title winners have remained loyal to the bulk of their squad as managerless Town prepare for a crucial summer.
He said: “They have stuck with their manager and a lot of their squad.
