Man United set for £20m 'discount' on huge Matheus Cunha transfer as agreement 'close'
Manchester United could secure a welcomed discount on their deal to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers star Matheus Cunha thanks to their interest in one of Ruben Amorim's getaway stars.
United are reportedly closing in on the signing of the attacking midfielder to bolster Amorim's options in attack. The Brazilian has been heavily linked with a summer switch to Old Trafford for a number of weeks after impressing at Molineux.
The Manchester Evening News reported last week that United are confident of bolstering Amorim's frontline without the need for sales. Cunha, 25, is a priority target as well as Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap.
The overhaul of the playing squad is expected to move quickly with United sitting 16th in the Premier League table. Their Europa League adventure has been the only saviour this term with Champions League football a reward if they beat Tottenham in this week's final.
Cunha is one of two - or maybe three - attacking reinforcements that is expected to be signed in the summer with Delap on their radar. According to Fabrizio Romano, a deal for Cunha is close with the former Atletico Madrid 'accepting the project' at the club.
Personal terms aren't thought to be a problem and the final details are the only remaining hurdle. United are expected to activate his £62.5million release clause at Wolves, which was inserted when he signed a new contract at the Midlands club earlier this year.
However, the future of Jadon Sancho could spark United receiving a Profitability and Sustainability rules (PSR) discount. The winger, currently on loan at Chelsea, is expected to leave United permanently at the end of the season but there are concerns on whether Enzo Maresca's side will activate their £25m option.
