Man United 'identify' Manuel Ugarte transfer alternative as Jose Mourinho intervention to be key

Manchester United have reportedly identified Sporting Clube de Portugal star Morten Hjulmand as an alternative signing to Manuel Ugarte.

Although personal terms have been agreed with Uruguay international Ugarte, negotiations with Paris Saint-Germain are thought to have hit a stumbling block with clubs unable to settle on a price. PSG are said to be standing firm on their valuation of £59million (€70m), which United are currently unwilling to meet.

The Old Trafford outfit are reportedly growing frustrated and may decide to pursue alternative transfer targets. According to Metro, one alternative option appears to be Hjulmand, who has long been linked with a move to Old Trafford.

It is claimed the club scouts are 'closely monitoring' the midfielder, who has a £67.5million release clause. However, it is also thought the Reds need to offload some players before making new additions.

United captain Bruno Fernandes, who signed from Sporting, is a huge fan of Hjulmand. "I love Sporting’s midfield," he previously said.

"I love [Hidemasa] Morita and [Morten] Hjulmand. They’re two vital players in Sporting’s game, especially when they have to have more of the ball and be more tactically organised."

Elsewhere, former United boss Jose Mourinho is said to be 'pushing' to sign Victor Lindelof, according to Turkish outlet Fotomac. United are thought to be keen to sell the defender as he is coming to the end of his contract next summer.
