M60 and M66 traffic LIVE as incident sparks rush hour chaos and hour-long queues - updates

Queues are building up on two motorways following a breakdown.

Two lanes of traffic have been closed on the M60 anticlockwise between junctions 17, at Prestwich and Whitefield, and 16 at Pendlebury this morning (October 16).

A broken down vehicle in the area has led to the lane closures, according to the Inrix traffic monitoring service.

Queues are stretching back beyond Simister Island, Google traffic data shows.

Traffic is tailing back towards junction 19 of the M62 westbound, at Heywood and Middleton.

A post from Inrix said: Two lanes closed and queueing traffic due to broken down vehicle on M60 anticlockwise from J17 A56 Bury New Road (Prestwich / Whitefield) to J16 A666 Manchester Road (Pendlebury).

"Lanes three and four are closed."

Traffic cameras also show slow traffic on the opposite carriageway at the scene.
