M6 traffic LIVE updates after motorway shut with 45-minute queues
Drivers heading north from Greater Manchester are facing long delays after part of the M6 was closed.
Traffic was stopped near to junction 31, at Preston, following a 'multi-vehicle' crash this morning (July 30).
Police were warning drivers to expect the closure for 'some time', with queues approaching the scene currently stretching for around four miles.
A Lancashire Police spokesperson wrote on Facebook: "We want to update you and let you know that there is a road closure on M6 northbound near to J31 due to a road traffic collision.

"We anticipate that the road will be closed for some time, whilst we make sure the road is safe and assess the situation.
"In the meantime, we’d recommend looking for an alternative route and avoiding the area, driving carefully, leaving plenty of extra time to get to your destination."

National Highways north west said motorists were facing 45-minute delays, with queues tailing back to junction 29 and speeds of just 4 mph approaching the closure.
The road has now reopened, with one lane remaining closed, but long queues remain.
