Llanelli Town pay ultimate Celtic and Jock Stein tribute with special green and white hooped away kit

Llanelli Town have paid tribute to Celtic and Jock Stein with their new away kit.

Stein, who achieved god-like status in Glasgow by leading the Hoops to the 1967 European Cup, winning nine Scottish league titles in a row and going on to manage Scotland, played for the Cymru South outfit before moving to Parkhead as a player in 1951, hanging up his boots six years later. Of course, it was in the dugout where Stein made his mark as one of the best to ever do it from north of the border, but the Welsh club have marked his time with them, during which he scored 5 goals in 44 appearances.

Their new Joma change kit features the classic hoops, albeit in a darker green compared to Celtic’s. Commercial manager Jordan Fox explained the thinking behind the new look. He said: “There were a few different away kits chosen by the committee but I wanted to choose something that felt special for the club. After some thought we chose to link it to the legend Jock Stein with this Celtic inspired kit - in hope to raise the club's stature and brand.

“We want to grow the club on an international scale. We have many groundhoppers who visit Stebonheath Park from all over the UK and even Europe. It’s all about marketing to a wide audience as well as providing our own supporters with a stunning new away kit."
