John Kennedy is at Celtic because he knows where bread his buttered and Spurs claim beggars belief - Hotline

Brendan Rodgers insists he’ll win over any Celtic fans still unhappy over his return. Meanwhile Hoops assistant John Kennedy seems to face a never ending battle to pacify supporters who’d rather he left!

It’s a tough gig delivering all that silverware but Rodgers - a target for the Green Brigade after his sudden exit four years ago - believes time and trophies will help heal those wounds. Eddie Easson, Ballingry, said: “The new season is nearly here and all Celtic fans need to get behind the manager. If a minority don't want to then give up your season book if you have one. Brendan Rodgers is a top manager who has nothing to prove to the Green Brigade. He will make good players better - you saw that against Wolves.”

Support for Kennedy - who insisted yesterday he has no regrets over choosing to stick with Celts rather than follow Ange Postecoglou to Spurs - wasn’t quite so clear on the Hotline though. George McCallum, Falkirk, said: “John Kennedy is a law unto himself and to say he was nearly tempted to go to Spurs beggars belief. If he had been good enough he would have gone just like the two managerial positions at Hearts and Hibs. He’s no real ambition and is still at Celtic. In a way I feel a little bit sorry for him, the way his career ended in an international for Scotland against Romania. He is only 39 years of age and still learning, I hope. Good luck John - you’ll need it.”

Paddy Gowans emailed: “I had to laugh when John Kennedy said he was happy at Celtic. He knows where his bread is buttered and gets money for nothing. No chance he was going to Spurs, he could get sacked at anytime if he went there.”

Hibs made a statement signing on Monday when Dylan Vente arrived in a £700,000 deal from Roda - becoming Lee
