Kieran Tierney to Celtic transfer rules at odds with Brendan Rodgers message as Arsenal 'desire' proves major hurdle

Celtic have been made aware that Arsenal are looking at permanent deals over loans as dream return chatter over Kieran Tierney lingers.

Brendan Rodgers' side are well-stocked at left-back with Greg Taylor and Alexandro Bernabei as options but that hasn't cut rumours of the club academy product making an emotional return to work with his former boss. Talk last month suggested that the Celtic manager was keen to bring Tierney back to Glasgow and the man himself is also reportedly ready to cut his big Gunners wages to make it a reality.

Real Sociedad are the latest club to be linked with the Scotland international, who has also been heavily touted for Newcastle. £25m is the fee that took the 26-year-old to North London in 2019 but he has fallen down the pecking order and didn't start any of their pre-season friendlies, with an exit now potentially awaiting before September.

However, Arsenal might prefer permanent deals. The Telegraph claims, in regards to a Real Sociedad loan, that it 'remains to be seen whether Arsenal would be willing to allow Tierney to leave on loan, given their desire to raise money through sales before the end of the window.'

His deal runs until 2026 so a hefty fee is required if a permanent deal is to be struck. And Brendan Rodgers has already said a mega money Celtic deal for a marquee signing this summer is out the question.

He said to Sky last month: "I think everyone looks and thinks that we might be bringing in a £15million or £20million player. Now the reality is, that won't be the case. It's not what the club is based on."
