Live updates as police cordon off part of busy Cardiff street

Police have cordoned off part of a busy Cardiff street. Several officers and police vehicles have been pictured on Bute Street on Wednesday morning.

South Wales Police have confirmed that one woman has been taken to hospital with injuries, and one man has been arrested on suspicion of assault. Enquiries are still on-going, the police force confirmed.

In a statement on Wednesday morning, a spokesperson for South Wales Police said: "A police cordon is in place in Bute Street, Cardiff, near to the Salvation Army hostel. One woman has been taken to hospital with injuries described as neither life-threatening nor life-changing. One man has been arrested on suspicion of assault and enquiries are on-going."

Police tape can be seen near Callaghan Square in the city centre. It comes after a nearby crash was earlier reported on between Bute Place and Hemingway Road. Traffic monitors said that part of Bute Street has been closed since 10am.

On Twitter at around 10am on Wednesday morning, Cardiff Bus page said that their services were diverted to another road due to the traffic accident. In a tweet, they wrote: "Due to a traffic accident on Bute St, the 5 service will divert via Lloyd George Avenue in both directions, until further notice. Please allow extra time for your journey".
