Swansea Airshow 2022: Live updates as thousands flock to see Red Arrows make their return

Thousands of people are heading down to Swansea Beach today, the first day of Wales Airshow 2022. The popular family-friendly event promises breath-taking aerobatic displays as state-of-the-art military and vintage planes take to the skies, whilst there's set to be a wide range of charity and business stalls and food and drink stands along Swansea Promenade for people of all ages to peruse.

It's been three years since the last Wales Airshow, as the 2020 and 2021 shows had to be cancelled due to pandemic restrictions, so locals and visitors are excited to see the event make a return post-Covid. Among the aerobatics display teams performing this weekend are the RAF Chinook Display Team, Swansea’s very own Team Raven, and the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, as well as Mustang and Spitfire, the Norwegian MiG, Tiger Army Parachute Display Team, Royal Navy Black Cats, the Firebirds, RAF Tutor, Catalina, Aerosuperbatics WingWalkers, Strikemaster - and Britain's most famous aerobatics team, the RAF Red Arrows.

People attending the event, and those who aren't, should also note that one of the main roads into Swansea City Centre is closed to traffic (excluding emergency access) whilst the Airshow is taking place. Oystermouth Road is closed in both directions, between the West Way and Sketty Lane junctions, throughout the weekend. Access to the Marina, Singleton Park Boating Lake and Swansea University will be maintained and diversion and parking facilities have been arranged for people who wish to drive towards Swansea Beach and park their cars near the action.
