Serious police incident shuts M4 near Cardiff - latest updates

A serious police incident has been reported on the M4 near Cardiff this morning. The motorway has been shut eastbound between Junctions 29 and 30.

The incident appears to have started in daylight around 5am on the stretch of motorway between the exits for Pentwyn Link Road and Cardiff Gate. According to the Inrix live traffic and travel database, traffic was coping well, although was light because of the time of day.

A post of Twitter from South Wales Police stated that officers were currently dealing with a serious incident on the M4 at junction 30 eastbound. It added that the road would be closed until further notice and the police recommended that motorists find alternative routes for the time being.

The Welsh Government's Traffic South Wales service on Twitter confirmed that the M4 eastbound from the Cardiff Gate junction to the Castleton exit was closed.
