Several train routes coming into Manchester Victoria have reported "severe disruption" due to a broken down train. The incident has left a number of lines blocked, with a train rescue crew currently being "sourced."

In information available on its website, Northern Railway has advised customers that it expects the disruption to "continue into the evening". At present, it estimated delays of up to 30 minutes on some services.

Several services have been impacted by the disruption, including trains not currently running between Hebden Bridge and Todmorden.

Services between Leeds and Manchester Victoria have also been cancelled, while those between Chester and Leeds will now terminate at Manchester Victoria.

Meanwhile services between York and Blackpool North will now terminate and restart in Blackburn, and a shuttle service has been set up between Leeds and Hebden Bridge.

Advice posted on Northern Railway's website said: "Due to a broken down train between Hebden Bridge and Todmorden some lines are blocked.

"Maintenance teams from the freight train company have been unable to move the train and a rescue train is currently being sourced. Time-scales for this will mean disruption will continue into the evening."

A statement posted to the company's Twitter page read: "Due to a fault on a train between Hebden Bridge and Rochdale some lines are blocked.

"Train services running through these stations will be cancelled or delayed by up to 30 minutes."

Information posted on Northern Rail's website also informs customers that if they have a ticket for a specific service they will be able to use this on another train within two hours of the original service.
