LIVE: Large emergency service presence after 'police incident' on major Rochdale road - latest updates
Emergency services have been scrambled to a major road in Rochdale following reports of a 'police incident'.
Whitworth Road in closed in both directions from the junction with Yorkshire Street and St Mary's Way this afternoon. Police, fire crews and ambulances have been spotted at the scene.
Bury Road (B6222) in Rochdale has also been closed following reports of a 'collision'. Inrix, a traffic monitoring site, says: "Bury Road in both directions closed, queueing traffic due to accident from Woodlands Avenue to Meadowcroft Lane."
Traffic is building in and around the area. Images show the road has been cordoned off as officers conduct their enquiries.
The precise nature of the incident is not yet known.
Greater Manchester Police, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service and the North West Ambulance Service have been approached for further information.
