LIVE: Police cordon off main road as man is rushed to hospital - latest updates

A stretch of a main road in Oldham is cordoned off by police this morning after a 'concern for welfare' incident.

Part of Manchester Street near the town centre is currently closed. According to traffic alert service Inrix, the westbound side is shut between Oldham Way and Windsor Road.

Officers are on the scene this morning, with a bus stop cordoned off. Traffic is being diverted away from the area, with some bus services also on a diversion route.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said a man was taken to hospital with a head injury. His condition is 'unknown' at this stage.

The spokesperson said: "At around 6.30am on Monday 29 January 2024, officers were called to reports of a concern for welfare of a man on Windsor Road in Oldham. A man was taken to hospital with an injury to his head, where his condition remains unknown.

"Enquiries are ongoing."

The road is open heading towards Oldham town centre.

People spotted emergency crews on the scene around 6.30am.

The cordon is in place near a bus stop.

Police said they were called to Windsor Road, which is just off Manchester Street.

In a statement, a Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said:

"At around 6.30am on Monday 29 January 2024, officers were called to reports of a concern for welfare of a man on Windsor Road in Oldham.

"A man was taken to hospital with an injury to his head, where his condition remains unknown.
