Police have taped off an east Manchester road following reports of a serious crash. The incident involves a car and a school bus, police said.

Two people have been rescued by firefighters before being handed over to the ambulance service. Officers are currently in attendance on Kirkmanshulme Lane, in Belle Vue, this evening (February 14).

The road, which runs between Gorton and Longsight, is currently closed in both directions. Eyewitnesses reported seeing an air ambulance in the area.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "Emergency services are responding to a road traffic collision between a car and a school bus on Kirkmanshulme Lane in Manchester. Road closures remain in place and motorists are urged to avoid the area."

A Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson added: "At just before 4pm today (Wednesday, February 14), fire crews were called to reports of a road traffic collision on Kirkmanshulme Lane, Longsight. Two fire engines from Phillips Park and Whitehill fire stations and the technical response unit from Leigh quickly attended the incident which involved two vehicles.

“Crews used specialist equipment to extricate two people from a vehicle before they were transferred to the care of colleagues from North West Ambulance Service (NWAS). Firefighters made the area safe before departing after approximately one hour at the scene.”
