What Kobbie Mainoo said after scoring his first Manchester United goal

Kobbie Mainoo says it is a dream come true to score his first Manchester United goal after he got on the scoresheet in their 4-2 win over Newport County in the FA Cup.

The 18-year-old looked to have all but won the game when he doubled the lead for United at Rodney Parade, before a dramatic comeback saw Newport draw the scores level in the second half.

Antony and Rasmus Hojlund would go on to secure the victory for United and book their place in round five of the competition, with Mainoo delighted to play his part in the win. Speaking at full-time, he shared his delight at the moment on a day when Erik ten Hag's side took one step closer to their dream of winning a trophy this season.

PLAYER RATINGS: Shaw and Martinez good in Newport win

LATEST: Why Rashford missed Newport win

"It is a big point in my career," he told MUTV after the win. "To score my first goal, I have been dreaming of this moment for a long time. So it has been amazing.

"It was very important. At this point in the season, every cup win is important because it is the next step to the final goal, which is winning a trophy. "

Asked what the plan was when Newport drew things level after being two goals down, the teenage midfielder added: "Back to basics. We have great players who can create goals at any time so when we go 2-2, it is never really a panic. It's just getting back to the things we are good at. It's 0-0 again, so we can always score more."
