LIVE: Police close road after woman hurt in crash - latest updates

Emergency services are on the scene of a crash in east Manchester this afternoon.

Police said the crash happened at the junction of Councillor Street and Ashton New Road, close to the Etihad stadium. According to Stagecoach, a stretch of Ashton New Road has now been closed off in both directions.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester said one female had been taken to hospital from the scene. Her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing at this stage, they added.

Traffic is currently being diverted away from the area. A tweet posted by Stagecoach said: "Routes 216/230/231. An RTC has closed Ashton New Rd outside the Etihad Stadium in both directions.

"We have no option but to divert via Alan Turing Way, Ashton Old Rd and Great Ancoats St in both directions until further notice. Sorry for any inconvenience caused."
