LIVE: Huge delays on M62 with lanes closed due to ongoing 'police incident' - latest updates

There are huge delays on the M62 this afternoon with lanes closed due to an ongoing 'police incident'.

Two lanes are shut with emergency services at the scene on the eastbound carriageway, between J11 for Birchwood and J12 for the M60 and Eccles. All traffic was temporarily stopped earlier this afternoon as motorway police responded.

Two lanes have now been blocked off causing delays ahead of rush hour. Greater Manchester Police and Merseyside Police have been contacted for further details on the ongoing incident.

Tactics were used to stop the vehicle as it travelled down the M62

Traffic service Inrix reports:

"Long delays and two lanes closed due to police incident on M62 Eastbound from J11 A574 Birchwood Way (Birchwood) to J12 M60 J12 (Eccles Interchange). Congestion to M62 J10 (Croft Interchange)."

According to live traffic service Inrix, all traffic on the eastbound carriageway was temporarily stopped earlier today.

Vehicles are now able to pass the incident in lanes one and two, with two other lanes still closed off.

GMP and Merseyside Police have been contacted for updates.

National Highways has reported there are delays of at least 30 minutes this afternoon.

There are queues of traffic on the eastbound carriageway in the lead up to the incident, between J11 and J12.
