LIVE: Police at Manchester Ship Canal following reports of person in water - latest updates
Police are in attendance amid a rescue operation on the Manchester Ship Canal in Salford. Officers are at the scene at Irlam Locks, off Cadishead Way, this morning (December 6).
It follows a major rescue operation which took place in the area on Thursday night. Rescue teams and a helicopter descended on the area at around 8.40pm following reports of a person in the canal.
It's understood Greater Manchester Police was called out following concerns for a person's welfare. Efforts to find the missing person were ongoing late on Thursday night.

At least one GMP car is currently in attendance at the scene. It's understood divers are on their way to Irlam Locks. The Irlam Locks footbridge remains closed this morning.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said on Thursday night: "At shortly before 8.40pm this evening (Thursday, December 5) two fire engines from Irlam and Stretford fire stations were called to Irlam Locks following reports of a person in the water. Crews are assisting Greater Manchester Police and North West Ambulance Service to rescue the person."
