LIVE: M6 traffic as multi-vehicle collision causes miles of congestion - latest updates

A multi-vehicle crash is causing major disruption on the M6 this morning as drivers take to the road to get home for Christmas.

Motorists are facing long queues on the M6 Northbound after the collision between J17 Sandbach and J18 Holmes Chapel. There is currently four miles of congestion as three lanes are closed.

Drivers are facing delays of around 30 minutes, according to National Highways, as emergency services work at the scene.

Long delays are now cleared on the M6.

We are still awaiting a full statement on the incident from Cheshire Police.

Queues have eased significantly now all lanes are open on the M62. Some delays do remain.

National Highways is now reporting delays of 40 minutes against expected traffic on the M6 Northbound.
