LIVE: Road closed 'for some time' amid serious collision - latest updates
A busy road has been closed off after reports on Monday morning of a serious road traffic collision.
According to reports, the air ambulance was scrambled to the scene together with other emergency services.
Police, writing on social media, said the road closure was 'likely to remain in place for some time' and urged the public to avoid the area.
Westleigh Lane in Leigh, Wigan, has been closed between the junction of Nel Pan Lane and Isherwood Street. No further details are available at present.
Writing on Facebook, Wigan and Leigh Police said: "Police are currently responding to a report of a road traffic collision on Westleigh Lane in Leigh.
"The road is currently closed in both directions between the junction of Nel Pan Lane and Isherwood Street.
"Road closures are likely to remain in place for some time whilst we complete our investigation. Please avoid the area for the time being and plan an alternative route for your journey."

Police have confirmed a man, believed to be a young male, has been taken to hospital.
The M.E.N. has been told he was on a bicycle on or near the pedestrian crossing when there was a collision with a car.
Police said he was taken to hospital with a suspected broken ankle.
No arrests have been made and no further information given.
The cordon starts at the junction of Isherwood Street. Access to Trees estate has also been closed off by police. @MENnewsdesk
