LIVE: Main road in town centre shut both ways due to 'police incident' - latest updates

A main road in Bolton town centre is shut in both directions this morning after a 'police incident'.

Dean Road has been closed off between Cannon Street and Lanchaster Drive, according to Transport for Greater Manchester. Traffic is being diverted away from the scene.

Some bus routes are also being diverted. The nature of the police incident has not yet been confirmed.

The Manchester Evening News has contacted Greater Manchester Police for details. In a tweet posted at around 5.40am, TfGM said: "ROAD CLOSURE. Deane Road, Bolton.Closed between Cannon St and Lanchester Drive in both directions.

"Local buses are on diversion @DiamondBusNW @StagecoachGM @VisionBus. Use Derby St, St Helens Rd."
