Live M6 traffic updates as motorway closed after crash sees lorry overturn in Lancashire

The M6 motorway is closed in Lancashire following a crash that has seen a lorry overturn this morning (Tuesday, September 2).

The northbound carriageway is shut to traffic between Junction 34 and Junction 35, with all emergency services at the scene.

The closure was first reported shortly after 2.30am, with a fuel spillage reported as a result of the incident and a diversion route in place.

A National Highways spokesperson said: "The M6 in Lancashire is closed northbound between junction 34 (near Halton, Lancaster) and junction 35 due to an overturned lorry and fuel spill.

"Lancashire Police and North West Ambulance Service are in attendance. National Highways Traffic Officers are on scene to assist with traffic management."

Traffic is building up approaching the closure on the M6 northbound.

There are also delays on the A683 either side of the motorway.

The motorway remains closed northbound, while a lane is also shut southbound.

Lancashire Police says the closure is expected to remain 'for some time'.
