M65 LIVE as major fuel spillage closes motorway - latest traffic updates

The M65 has been closed after a large diesel spillage on the carriageway.

The motorway is currently shut westbound between junction 2 to junction 1 following

National Highways said due to the extent of the spillage the clean up is expected to be "extensive and complex".

They said in a statement: "Due to the extent of the spillage, it is highly likely this closure will be protracted as an extensive and complex clean-up.

"Service providers are en route to the scene to clear the spillage. Once cleared, carriageway assessments will take place to determine if any damage has been caused to the road surface."

Diversions are in place with delays expected to impact journey times.
