Live M60 traffic updates as 'police incident' leaves motorway closed - latest updates

The M60 is closed due to an ongoing 'police incident' - with Manchester City issuing a warning for fans heading to the derby.

The motorway is shut to traffic in both directions within Junction 23 at Ashton-under-Lyne.

The closure was first reported shortly before 3pm, with traffic heading to the Manchester Derby affected.

Manchester Road is also closed, with the incident reported shortly before 3pm.

A National Highways spokesperson said: "The M60 is CLOSED within J23 Ashton-under-Lyne in both directions due to a Greater Manchester Police-Led Incident. Traffic is being diverted via the exit and entry slip roads. 20 min delays anti-clockwise between J20 and J19."

A Manchester City spokesperson said: "Due to police incident at M60 J23 near Manchester Road in Ashton under Lyne, a closure is in place on the M60 between J23 - J22 anticlockwise. Manchester Road is also closed in both directions. Those making journeys to the Etihad Stadium are advised to leave extra travel time and consider rerouting to avoid long delays."
