LIVE: Huge emergency response after car goes into canal - latest updates
A road has been closed after a car has gone into the canal in Stretford. Police, firefighters and ambulance are on Edge Lane following reports of the incident this morning.
According to GMP, a vehicle crashed into a van before going into the Bridgewater Way canal which is just off the main road. The driver has been safely removed and will be taken to hospital as a precaution.
Commuters are able to use the Stretford Metrolink stop which is near to the incident, however, the park and ride will be closed until Edge Lane is reopened.
A GMP spokesperson said: "A car has crashed into a van and then has gone into the canal. The driver has been safely removed from the car and water and will be taken to hospital as a precaution."
Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) says: "Pedestrians can access the Stretford Metrolink stop, however the Park and Ride will not be accessible until Edge Lane reopens."
