LIVE: Huge emergency services response after serious incident closes road - latest updates

A huge emergency services presence is at the scene of a serious incident in Wythenshawe this evening (Sunday, March 9).

Police, paramedics and fire crews are in attendance at the junction with Greenwood Road and Hollyhedge Road following the incident earlier this afternoon.

Pictures from the scene showed a number of ambulances and police vehicles lining the road. It is thought emergency crews are responding to a serious road traffic collision this evening.

Enhanced incident units, advanced paramedics, police and fire crews all remain at the scene.

A tram has also been pictured within the cordon, which has now been confirmed to have not been involved.

An air ambulance has also been called to the scene this evening, in Wythenshawe.

A large emergency services response was called to reports of a serious collision at around 5pm.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “Just before 5pm this evening (Sunday 9th March), two fire engines from Stockport Central and Wythenshawe fire station, along with the Technical Response Unit from Ashton, were call to an incident on Greenwood Road, Wythenshawe.

“Firefighters have been in attendance for around thirty minutes and are still at the scene.”

A full closure is in place on the junction of Greenwood and Hollyhegde Road this evening.

Police remain at the scene.
