Live updates as Oldham park shut by police following serious incident

Police have taped off an Oldham beauty spot this afternoon with a huge emergency services presence at the scene.

Officers have been at Werneth Park near the A62 Manchester Road since around 3:30pm on Friday (March 28), the Manchester Evening News understands. The exact nature of the incident is not yet clear.

Witnesses report seeing a huge emergency services presence at the park, with the whole space closed to the public.

Greater Manchester Police has been contacted for more information.

At around 2.40pm today (Friday 28 March 2025), we were called to reports of a suspicion item being found by a member of the public in Werneth Park on Frederick Street in Oldham.

Officers remain at the scene and investigations are ongoing. This is an isolated incident and there is no threat or risk to the local community.
