Kyogo vents on lingering Celtic 'frustration' as Urawa Red Diamonds free up cash for transfer bid

Celtic striker Kyogo Furushashi has branded last season "frustrating" amid fresh swirls over a switch to Urawa Red Diamonds.

The hitman is a firm fan favourite of the Hoops having enjoyed a trophy-laden spell at Celtic Park since being brought to the Scottish Premiership by Ange Postecoglou back in 2021. He added two more winners medals to his collection last term under Brendan Rodgers as he lifted a third consecutive league title along with the Scottish Cup - but the 29-year-old has confessed that he didn't meet his personal targets.

Speaking to Daisuke Nasu's 'Sushi Talk' YouTube channe, Kyogo was put on the spot about his campaign last term. The honest forward admitted: "It was a difficult season. Compared to last year, I didn't score as many goals. There were times when I couldn't play in the games and there were times when I had to start in the middle of a game.

"It was a frustrating season, but it didn't end with that kind of frustration. Changing my position expanded the range of my game, and I was able to experience many different things. I had a lot of different experiences, and I think I grew one more step. Instead of focusing on the bad things, I think positively that I was able to grow and take another step forward."

The verdict comes amid reports over interest from cash-rich Urawa. Reports in Japan earlier this summer had suggested that Kyogo was the top target of the side as they prepared an ambitious bid to bring the frontman back to the J-League.

Japanese outlet The Sporting News claim that an offer is still being "considered" by Urawa for the Celtic hero after the exit of David Moberg. It is noted that the midfielder was allowed to join Aris Thessaloniki for nothing to free up wages for a fresh
