Celtic play hardball over Matt O'Riley Atalanta transfer asking price as £5m successor sees deal 'collapse'

Celtic are said to have reiterated their asking price for Matt O'Riley to Atalanta with reports suggesting that a fifth offer has been knocked back.

The Serie A side have been desperately pursuing a deal for the 23-year-old throughout the summer but have seen a series of bids kicked out by the Scottish Premiership side with interest in the Danish international ramping up across Europe. Brighton, Chelsea, Bournemouth and Southampton are among the English Premier League sides showing interest while Atletico Madrid and Inter are also in the running.

Boss Brendan Rodgers has insisted that Celtic are under no pressure to sell - and the club have doubled down on that message by turfing out another offer from the Serie A side on Monday. Following the latest rejection, Gazetta dello Sport claim that the Hoops have made their valuation clear to the Europa League winners.

It is stated that Celtic have told the Italians they must put forward a package worth more than €25million (£21.3million) with negotiations ongoing. It is noted that Atalanta have stayed "well below that threshold" but have "never diminished their interest."

A potential successor remains on the card for Rodgers' should a deal be green lit - with Venezia midfielder Tanner Tessmann's move to Fiorentina on the brink of collapse. Tutto Mercato Web report that a €5million (£4.2million) deal plus €1.2million (£800k) in add ons had been agreed between the two clubs.

But as it stands there is no agreement with the player while his agents await a final decision on the on commissions they will be paid. It is claimed the deal is set to "collapse" over the delay.
