James Maddison reveals brilliant plan that will put Gareth Southgate under huge pressure

James Maddison has targeted an even better 2022/23 season after enjoying his best campaign for Leicester City.

The City number 10 helped lift Brendan Rodgers' side up to eighth in the Premier League table and a Europa Conference League semi-final last season, despite experiencing difficult spells throughout the 10 months.

Maddison scored 18 goals and assisted 12 in 52 games in all competitions in the 2021/22 season, piling up the best goal contribution by an Englishman. However, his form did not warrant a place in Gareth Southgate's England squad for the four Nations League fixtures.

The Three Lions endured a difficult month, failing to win in four games for the first time since the 2014 World Cup, scoring only one goal from the penalty spot in the 1-1 draw with Germany. Calls have already been made by former players like Tony Cottee and Jack Wilshere for Maddison to be selected in September's fixtures prior to November's World Cup.

Maddison hasn't let his England blow affect his personal game.

"We've had a great few seasons and the Club continues to go from strength to strength so we'll be looking to continue that success this year. We're all hungry to do well and improve as a team, so I'm excited for what the 2022/23 campaign will bring," Maddison told the official club website.

"On a personal level, last season was a really positive one for me. I contributed towards the team's success and was delighted to score 18 goals and register 12 assists in all competitions. I know I can get even better though, so I'll be looking to keep my numbers up and keep helping the team this season."
