Leicester City fans slam Gareth Southgate as transfer 'dream' outlined

Good morning Foxes fans! Here are your morning headlines on Wednesday, 15 June, 2022.

England boss Gareth Southgate has been slammed for his decision not to call up Leicester City star James Maddison.

The Three Lions were thumped 4-0 at home to Hungary at Molineux on Tuesday evening as they concluded their disastrous international break with no victories in four games.

After losing in Budapest, England were held by Germany and Italy before suffering their biggest defeat since 1928 against the 40th-ranked side in the world table.

In the game, Southgate deployed a 4-3-3 system with Jarrod Bowen and Bukayo Saka flanking Harry Kane in attack. However, they managed only two attempts on target all evening and were punished for their lack of creativity by Marco Rossi's men.

Youri Tielemans is a high-profile player and he’s being linked with a high-profile club in Arsenal, and so it's the dominant story when it comes to Leicester City transfers right now. It was the same with Ben Chilwell and Chelsea, and Harry Maguire and Manchester United.

City’s stance on the England duo was pretty clear. Given the players’ quality, City would have been happy to keep them. But both Maguire and Chilwell had signalled their intention to leave and so the task became to get the best deal possible, rather than try to persuade them otherwise or steadfastly refuse to sell. In both scenarios, City did a decent job, earning £130m.

It’s not quite the same with Tielemans. Despite his reluctance to sign a new contract at City, publicly he has straddled the fence between staying and leaving whenever the topic of his future has been put to him.
