How Manchester United should line up vs Southampton in Premier League fixture

Manchester United take on Southampton in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

United recorded their first win of the season against Liverpool earlier this week and that result was warmly welcomed after two defeats against Brighton and Brentford. United were at their counter-attacking best against Liverpool and they deserved the win.

After beating Liverpool, Erik ten Hag's side will be hoping to build some momentum and they have that opportunity at Southampton this weekend. Southampton have four points from three games this season, which puts them ahead of United in the table.

Although Ten Hag surprised supporters with his team selection for Liverpool, his brave calls were vindicated on the pitch.

Ten Hag might be tempted to keep the same side but that would be illogical given the option Casemiro.

Martial was an upgrade on Anthony Elanga, decent enough in United's barnstorming first 45-minutes against Liverpool, for the second-half in what was a tactical masterstroke. That reflected especially well on Ten Hag after he was dilatory from the dugout against Brighton.

Marcus Rashford was more threatening from the left and Elanga looked like a forward without a goal since February. The greatest goalscorer ever is available to Ten Hag.

So does Casemiro. Easing new signings into a team has always struck one as a pointless policy. Casemiro is one of the best defensive midfielders around and United need more from their midfield as they will dominate possession today. Scott McTominay is limited when he has the ball.
