Erik ten Hag makes pledge to Manchester United forwards

Erik ten Hag hopes Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford's matchwinning impacts against Liverpool can act as a springboard for their Manchester United careers.

Sancho and Rashford were on target either side of half-time in United's uplifting 2-1 win on Monday night, with Rashford relocated to the centre forward role after starting the first two games of the season on the left flank.

Ten Hag introduced Anthony Martial for Anthony Elanga at the pause and switched Rashford to the left, which was where he scored United's winner from a through ball by Martial.

Martial is unavailable for Saturday's trek to Southampton due to an Achilles injury so Rashford could start through the middle again. Cristiano Ronaldo is also available for a potential recall.

"Pre season, [Martial] did really good I was really happy with his contribution," Ten Hag said. "That is why I brought him in.

"You can see what impact he can have on our game but we have others who can play and do well in that role. I never talk about players who are not available, we have to do it with the players who are there.

"I think [Rashford] can play every role, as you saw last Monday. But I think it was really good to make that sub with Martial and move Rashy to the left because we know his inside runs are really dangerous and we saw that with the second goal.

"I was convinced about that from the first moment in pre-season. He impressed me and I knew already before he was a magnificent talent and player.

"He showed in every training session he is positive and has good energy and in pre-season he was good and I hope he will carry on like this and be positive.
