'He fulfilled his dream' - Robbie Savage pays emotional tribute as son Charlie leaves Manchester United

Former Premier League midfielder Robbie Savage has thanked Manchester United on behalf of his family after his son Charlie departed on a permanent deal this weekend.

League One club Reading announced the 20-year-old had signed a four-year contract with the Royals bringing his 15 year association with United to an end. Savage made just one senior appearance for the Reds which came in 2021 when he was brought on in the latter stages of the 1-1 draw with Young Boys in the Champions League group stages.

Last season, Savage went out on loan for the first time as he joined relegation-threatened Forest Green Rovers in the third tier. He made 15 appearances for the club scoring once and earned plenty of praise during his stint in Gloucestershire when he chose to turn down international duty in order to help his loan team.

He wrote: "Thank you for the 15 years. The 243rd Academy graduate to play for the first team out of 246. He fulfilled his dream, we as a family can't thank you enough."

Famously, Savage was also a product of the United academy but, unlike his son, did not make a first-team appearance for Sir Alex Ferguson's side.

Paying tribute himself to United on social media, Savage Jnr wrote: "Today marks the end of my time at Manchester United. For the past 15 years I have
