Hamilton Accies boss eyes Edinburgh City for 17th game unbeaten as club have record run in sights

John Rankin is targeting a 17th game unbeaten with Hamilton Accies but says they go into their Edinburgh City clash with “one eye shut”, because they don’t know what to expect from new opposition boss Michael McIndoe.

Rankin has not lost for 16 matches, stretching back to the final game of last season in the play-offs, and is determined to maintain that run at home to City, who have a new man at the helm.

Edinburgh-born former Coventry City and Luton Town midfielder McIndoe replaced Alan Maybury after a run of seven defeats and two draws from the capital club’s nine League One games so far.

So Rankin doesn’t know what to expect on Saturday, but warned Accies will need to be on top form to repeat their 3-0 win at Meadowbank in August.

He said: “It’s going to be a difficult game, they’ve just brought a new manager in, it’s unexpected, as in what they’re going to bring or what they’re going to be.

“We don’t know a lot about what he will do and what he will try and change, we’re trying to get different bits of information here and there, so it’s going in with one eye shut, so to speak.

“We’re trying to do as much due diligence as we can, and try to see if we can come up with a game plan that will get us three points.

“But it’s important what we do, I’ve said that to the players. It’s important to try and get an identity where we can go and win games.

“It’s always important to win games, but when you can win at home it brings the supporters and our relationship closer together.

“I’ve got to say the support has been great, the fans have been travelling in numbers, so hopefully we can continue to play in a way where we’re trying to win games and be on the front foot.

“We just want to keep our run going.”
