Falkirk can do what they like, we're focused on ourselves, insists Hamilton Accies ace

Kyle MacDonald insists Hamilton are focused on their own season and don’t care what rivals Falkirk do, but want to get back to winning ways.

The Bairns moved two points clear at the top of League One with a 2-1 win over Stirling, while Hamilton were held 1-1 at home to basement scrappers Edinburgh City.

MacDonald netted the opener for Accies in 35 minutes after periods of sustained pressure on the City rear-guard, but they didn’t take their chances and when they failed to clear their lines seven minutes into the second half, Ryan Shanley accepted the gift of a tap-in to equalise and take a point to the capital.

Accies now head to Montrose next weekend, looking to get their season back on track.

Midfielder MacDonald, who netted his fourth goal of the season in the draw, said: “At the end of the day it doesn’t really matter [that Falkirk are two points ahead], we focus on ourselves.

“It’s still early in the season, you can’t think too much about these things, it’s all about the next game.

“The next game is Montrose, so we will be fully focused on that, and Falkirk can do whatever they’re doing.

“Our full focus is on Hamilton’s next game.

“I don’t think we want to take frustration into the game, just motivation that when we are on top we take our chances and are ruthless.

“I think that’s something we need to be, because it has been the case quite a lot this season that we have been on top, haven’t been as ruthless as we should be, but we’ve still been getting results.

“I think today is probably the first time that we were on top but we didn’t get that result.

“Hopefully next week when we play against Montrose, if we are on top, we take our chances and we’re not in the same situation as we were in this game.
