Hamilton Accies skipper says Edinburgh City show has to be a 'blip' in title bid

Scott Martin says Hamilton Accies must make sure their 1-1 draw against Edinburgh City was a blip in their season and get back on track against Montrose on Saturday.

Accies were 1-0 up through Kyle MacDonald’s strike after dominating the first half on chances, but were pegged back by Ryan Shanley, after poor defending gifted him with a gilt-edged opportunity.

A trip to Links Park for the 5.30pm kick-off on Saturday offers Martin and Accies a chance to get back on track.

The Accies skipper said: “All the boys are disappointed with the result, and the way we played in the second half.

“We need to take the small positive, in that we’re still unbeaten, and it’s a blip, but we need to set it right next week. It’s another tough game, probably going to be kind of similar to how Edinburgh play, so we need to pick ourselves back up again.

“We can’t sit and moan about it, so we’ll pick ourselves up and go again.”

Reghan Tumilty, Kevin O’Hara and Jamie Barjonas all had good chances to score before MacDonald eventually made the break-through, but Accies fell flat after City levelled.

Martin said: “We said at half-time that those chances could come back and bite us, and it has, so fair play to Edinburgh – when they scored the goal they were resolute, got behind the ball and stuck to their game plan.

“It’s down to us as players on the park to try and figure it out and get the answers.”
