Hamilton Accies boss hails 'change in mentality' after never-say-die win over Alloa

John Rankin hailed his Hamilton side for going to the death to get their winner over Alloa - as he admitted they'd have settled for a point in a similar scenario last season.

Accies looked like they were heading for back-to-back draws in League One when Luke Donnelly cancelled out Euan Henderson's 47th minute opener at New Douglas Park.

But Rankin introduced a host of attack-minded players late in the game - bringing on McGlynn, Dario Zanatta and Lewis Smith - and it paid off when super sub Joe McGlynn popped up in the 93rd minute to flick home Kyle McDonald's cross.

It keeps Accies joint-top of the table with fellow unbeaten side Falkirk and boss Rankin believes there been such a mentality shift at the club this season, it is a game where they would have happily settled for a point last term.

He said: "I am absolutely delighted. Right the death we get a winner.

"Last season we were on the opposite side of that numerous times.

"But there is a change of mentality and it is easy to see.

"It's that never say die attitude that is there now. Last season we'd be thinking 'maybe we can get a point here', 'dig in and see the point out'.

"But today it was a case of 'we want to get the three points.'

"You could see with the changes that we wanted to get three points.

"Sometimes it doesn't work for wide players, I get that, because they've got to try and take players on.

"But the crowd has got to give us a wee bit of encouragement in that aspect because wide players are on to try and give us something different.

"It didn't quite work for them in particular, but we got the three points and that's the main thing at the end of the day.
