Former Rangers star sold ex-Burnley striker on Hamilton Accies move

Hamilton hero Joe McGlynn says former Rangers and Scotland star Charlie Adam told him Accies was the place to go to kick-start his career.

The 20-year-old striker bagged a 93rd minute winner for Accies on Saturday to sink Alloa and claim his first goal in League One for the club.

And he said if it wasn't for Adam, he probably wouldn't be in Scotland this season.

McGlynn joined the club in the summer from Burnley, where Adam is currently the loans manager, and he explained how the former Liverpool midfielder sold him on a move north.

McGlynn said: “I’d been with Burnley since I was 12-years-old, so I was there for a long time.

“Last season I was with the first team at Burnley and then went out on a few loans, then I got injured towards the end of the season.

“Charlie Adam helped me a lot, I always got on well with him, maybe it was the Scottish connection but he’s always been brand new with me.

“He helped me a lot and always put an arm round me when things weren’t going my way.

“As soon as I said there was interest from Hamilton, he basically told me it was a good move for me.

“I’m getting to the age where I need to be playing first team football, I could play Under-21 football but that won’t help my development and playing first team football is definitely what I want to be doing.”

McGlynn flicked home the winner from a Kyle MacDonald cross to send New Douglas Park wild in stoppage time, just as it looked like John Rankin's men would have to settle for a point.

Alloa's Luke Donnelly had cancelled out Euan Henderson's opener, but McGlynn got across his marker and produced an instinctive finish to make it five wins from six games for Accies, who sit joint-top with Falkirk.
