Graeme Souness emotional Rangers return is OFF after James Bisgrove talks as icon 'turns down' Ibrox role

Beloved Rangers hero Graeme Souness has reportedly turned down the chance to return to his former club.

The 70-year-old visiting his former club earlier this summer where he enjoyed a sit down with chief executive James Bisgrove and informal discussions were held over an official return to the side he starred for and managed in the the 1980s. Following his departure from Sky Sports rumours over Souness return to Rangers as director of football almost boiled over last month before it was played down by the Scottish Premiership side.

However, an ambassadorial role did appear to be on the table after weeks of talks with the club - but The Sun now state Souness has given the club an answer. It is reported he has turned down the chance to make an emotional return to the Govan side as the iconic Ibrox figure "did not believe he would be able to help the Light Blues."

It remains to be seen what Souness does next after ending his 15 years as a pundit. The former Liverpool midfielder has been a fixture of Sky's Premier League coverage and is one of the most recognised pundits in the game. Known for his outspoken style, he started punditry with Sky in 2008 after his spell as Newcastle manager.
