Ebbsfleet United boss Josh Wright won’t lose sight of promotion mission after National League South title dream dashed

The league title is out of Ebbsfleet’s reach but manager Josh Wright’s focus remains the same.

The Fleet lost 1-0 at fellow National League South promotion hopefuls Hornchurch last weekend.

It means they can no longer catch Worthing, who they play on the final day of the campaign, but their immediate focus is confirming a play-off spot.

On Saturday Ebbsfleet host Hampton & Richmond, who have been steered away from the drop zone by former Dartford boss Alan Dowson.

“You’ve just got to focus ahead,” said Wright. “We want to get promoted out of this league. It’s down to us to go and do that, whatever way, shape or form we have to do that.

“We know now how we’re going to have to do it and that’s down to us now to try and achieve it.

“It’s exactly the same approach. We want to go and win the next two games. We’ve been very strong at home, we’ve been very good and we have to continue that next week.

“We’ve got two massive weeks, a minimum of two massive weeks left of the season, and then we’ll see where that leaves us after the next two games. But it’s down to us now to get back on track.”

Despite the defeat at Hornchurch, it was a game that could have easily gone in Ebbsfleet’s favour.

Substitute Dominic Samuel hit the woodwork from long range with eight minutes left before the hosts scored a controversial late winner.

“We’ve proved [that we’re good enough] again,” insisted Wright. “If that’s a side that are possibly going to have a chance, or be in the mix, of winning the league, we’ve just proven that, especially second half.

“We’ll be ready and raring to go. We’ve proven it all year on many occasions and it’s down to us to go and do it again.”

Wright believes games are more
