Graeme Souness reveals Rangers disappointment over return talks as he admits 'it wasn't a road they wanted to go down'

Graeme Souness says he's "disappointed" at how talks went with Rangers over a potential return to the Ibrox club.

Souness held talks with chief executive James Bisgrove over the summer and was believed to have been offered an ambassadorial role at the club he played for and managed between 1986 and 1991. But he said no to that as he wanted a more hands-on football role that Rangers were unwilling to offer. He's now revealed he said no to the offer because he still has his "marbles."

Speaking about the situation publicly for the first time since talks broke down, he said on the Big Scottish Football Podcast: "Am I disappointed? I suppose I am. I still think I've got my marbles and at my age I still remember what you have to do to win football matches.

"I felt I had something to offer but maybe it wasn't seen as a road they wanted to go down from their point. I've not been part of Rangers for 30 years. I'm a little disappointed but I've got plenty going on in my life, like my charity work."
