Gareth Southgate is not the manager Manchester United need right now as links emerge

After the Manchester derby defeat on Sunday, speculation surrounding Erik ten Hag's future at Old Trafford has continued.

Manchester United are at the start of a new era under INEOS and Sir Jim Ratcliffe's supervision. MEN Sport reported recently that the British billionaire is uncertain about the Dutchman remaining in charge of the club.

Brighton and Hove Albion boss Roberto Di Zerbi is highly thought of by Ratcliffe and co and is seen as a viable alternative to Ten Hag. Since then, further names have started to be mentioned in the same breath as United with one name splitting the fanbase entirely.

MEN Sport has taken a look at the talking points surrounding Old Trafford below.

According to ESPN, England manager Gareth Southgate is being assessed as a replacement for Ten Hag at United. The 53-year-old is set to lead the Three Lions into a major tournament for the final time this summer with his contract expiring shortly after the Euros.

Southgate has a positive relationship with Dan Ashworth having worked together at the FA. The Newcastle United sporting director is currently on gardening leave after expressing his interest in joining United.

What MEN Sport says: Considering how poorly England had done at major tournaments, it is hard to argue against the fact Southgate has done a good job with the Three Lions.
